How To Download Clip Art

Learn how to download clip art and graphics, photos, animation, and images with various Web browsers.

Download With Internet Explorer (IE)

1. Click on clip art first to see if this brings up a larger image to download.
2. On the larger image, or on the original image, place the cursor on the clip art and RIGHT CLICK with the mouse.
3. This will bring up a small menu. Choose the SAVE PICTURE AS option.
4. Choose a directory/folder in which to place this image.
5. Click SAVE.

Download With NETSCAPE

1. Click on clip art first to see if this brings up a larger image to download.
2. On the larger image, or on the original image, place the cursor on the clip art and RIGHT CLICK with the mouse.
3. This will bring up a small menu. Choose the SAVE AS option.
4. Choose a directory/folder to place your clip art in.
5. Click SAVE.

Downloading With Mozilla Firefox

1. Place the mouse over the image you want to download and RIGHT CLICK the mouse button.
2. This will bring up a small menu. Choose the SAVE PICTURE AS option.
3. Choose a directory or a folder to place your clip art in.

Downloading For MACINTOSH USERS

1. Place the mouse over the image you want to download.
2. Hold the mouse button down until a menu screen pops up.
3. Choose the appropriate selection from the menu.

Downloading Animated Clip Art

Download animated images the same way that you download static clip art. Place the cursor over the animated clip art and follow the instructions for the browser you are using.

Please remember that animated images can only be seen as movement or animation when viewed with a browser or program that can recognize and show movement or animation.

The AOL web browser is a modified version of MSIE. One of the modifications is that by default it compresses graphics to an .ART format. The problem is that when you save images off web pages in the AOL browser, they stay in the .ART format - even if they are named with .gif or .jpg extensions. This means that only AOL Web Browsers can view images on your page - nobody else on the internet can see them!

Too, there is no paint program that can read and edit .ART format, so if you are downloading images even for non-Web use, you likely won't be able to use them.

The solution is to turn off the compression feature, or to download and install an unmodified version of MSIE or Netscape (my preference).
